Well that just about sums up my year in a nutshell. I was driving back from Lory's this evening down the country lanes near his house, around 6ish, and I was going round a left hand bend and something ran out in front of the car so I swerved to avoid it but the steering wheel locked up, so I slammed the brakes on too but, just my luck, the road was a tad icy too. Needless to say the car didn't stop and just skidded round the corner, clipped the bank on the right, before the car continued turning left and into the bank on the left hand side and just, rolled onto the roof, skidding across the road for a few metres before stopping. I wasn't even going fast =/
I braced myself when I realised it was going on its roof by pressing my hands onto the roof of the car and hoping I didn't continuously roll. Once I stopped, I did the usual - switched the engine off, put the hazards on, and attempted to clamber out the car. I think the worst bit was having to undo my seatbelt, knowing that I would fall onto the roof of the car covered in glass. The car is... kinda driveable, but near enough written off. Haven't got any photographs at the moment because it was dark, no camera and I was a little too shaken up to do anything. I'm okay though, slight graze on my right arm and just small pieces of glass in my hands from climbing out the car. People who came down the road helped me out by righting the car and getting it out the way and checking to see if I was okay.
Good timing, mind you. MOT was due for 18th of December and insurance runs out mid January. I can claim the last 3months of TAX back as well if I do that in the next couple of days because December has literally begun.
I don't think the shock has fully settled in still but give it time - I'll probably feel pretty sick later. Right now I just keep wishing that I'd done more to stop the car skidding off, but I don't know what else I could've done. Ah well, at least I'm still alive.
